ONLINE: Yoga Therapy for the Postpartum Pelvic Floor

This four-week series is a crucial piece of holistic postpartum care centered around re-embodiment and re-connection to the pelvic floor through yoga. Participants will cultivate deeper awareness of their bodies, specifically their pelvic floor muscles through understanding their postural and breathing patterns, cultivating connection to their pelvis in movement, and utilizing breath and yoga postures to both strengthen muscles and release tension. Each class includes an educational component, movement, breathwork, and a home practice to do between classes.

Participants are asked to have been cleared for movement by their doctor or midwife prior to attending the series. Participants are invited to bring their babies to this class. 

This class is a 4 week series that is viewable online. Videos will be posted by each Tuesday in June

Momma and Me - Yoga for Postnatal Women

This is parent and baby class, is geared towards pre-crawling babies. You will learn baby yoga movements and ways to engage with your baby based on their developmental stage. Jess Gruber is a pelvic floor yoga therapist, some of this practice will be based on pelvic floor rehabilitation after birth and incorporating baby into daily movements and easy exercises.

This is a recurring class held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30am - 10:30am at Potomac Pediatrics. This class is open and free for Potomac Pediatrics patients.

Wednesdays: May 1, 15, June 5, 26, July 10, 31

This four-week series is a crucial piece of holistic postpartum care centered around re-embodiment and re-connection to the pelvic floor through yoga. Participants will cultivate deeper awareness of their bodies, specifically their pelvic floor muscles through understanding their postural and breathing patterns, cultivating connection to their pelvis in movement, and utilizing breath and yoga postures to both strengthen muscles and release tension. The first class will include some time to complete a short intake questionnaire so that the instructor knows a bit more about each participant's health history and can make sure to meet everyone's needs throughout the series. All collected health information is in compliance with HIPAA.

Participants are asked to have been cleared for movement by their doctor or midwife prior to attending the series. Participants are invited to bring their babies to this class. 

This class is a 4 week series meeting each Monday in June from 11:30 - 12:45 at the Breastfeeding Center of Greater Washington DC.

Pelvic Floor 101: Demystifying Mula Bandha

This 4 hour workshop is a deep exploration of the physiology of the pelvis, the role of the pelvic floor muscles, and demystifying mula bandha. The first 2 hours of this workshop will be a deep dive into pelvic anatomy and physiology, exploring individually and through partner work how our bodies move in space as well as the inner workings of our physical and energetic bodies. Then we'll explore the power of mula bandha: exploring the stability of pelvic floor engagement in movement as well as the importance of releasing these muscles for restoration. Culminating this workshop in an hour-long practice exploring the application of all that we learned. Be prepared for lecture, movement, and working together with fellow participants.

Each participant will be provided with worksheets and other materials; please bring a pen to write with. This workshop is eligible for Yoga Alliance CEUs.

This workshop is led by Jess Gruber, who is currently pursuing her master's degree in clinical yoga therapy.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss: A Yoga Therapy Group

A weekly woman’s yoga therapy group, where women who have experienced abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss at any point in their lives will find a welcoming space for support on their journeys. This group encourages women who are struggling moment to moment with a recent loss and those reflecting on a more distant one to practice yogic tools such as asana (posture), pranayama (breath work), and meditation within a safe sisterhood of support. This series will provide guidance for non-judgmental observation of emotions, management of anxiety and worry, creation of self-love and self-care practices, as well as cultivating the feeling of embodiment within each woman.

No previous yoga experience is required. Participants are required to complete an intake form and participate in a short phone call with Jess Gruber prior to the start of the series. Once registered, Jess will email you an intake form and possible times to schedule a phone call. Participants will receive a notebook and all necessary materials. Mats are provided but participants are welcome to bring their own.

This series is led by Jess Gruber, who is currently pursuing her master's degree in clinical yoga therapy. Jess specializes in women’s health, working with women to heal and cultivate agency in their lives. She firmly believes that women’s well being is the crux of creating a healthy and peaceful world.

Sunday August 26th from 2:00 - 5:00pm

This group is for women to meet and provide a sisterhood of support in the experience of abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss. Women who are struggling moment to moment with a recent loss or those reflecting on a more distant one, will all find a welcoming space for support on their journeys. Together we will practice yoga, learn restorative breath-work and meditation practices.

We'll start this 3 hour gathering by introducing ourselves and sharing our stories with our sisterhood. We will then dive into movement and breathwork to bring us back into our bodies. Then we will begin a journaling exercise, on the story of our pelvises, making progress toward appreciation of your body, your pelvis, by sharing and remembering the breadth of your life experiences.

This series is led by Jess Gruber, an experienced yoga teacher and graduate student of yoga therapy, with a specialty in pelvic floor yoga therapy. She is passionate about women’s health and works with clients to heal through various yoga practices.

Release + Blossom

Inspired by the fresh growth of spring releasing what it no longer needs in order to blossom, this workshop will encourage gentle release of the hips in order to blossom from the heart. We’ll dip ourselves into sweet-like-honey restorative yoga postures to gently encourage the release of emotional information stored in our hips. Once we feel the release and softening of our deepest layers, we’ll begin to expand the heart space. Utilizing restorative postures, breath work, and meditation in order to blossom and shine outward from our hearts. You’ll leave this restorative class feeling sweet and light from your head to your toes, as if sunshine is beaming from your pores.
